Phase field predictions of micromechanical behaviour of composites, including bridging
We have developed a phase field and cohesive zone-based computational framework for predicting the micromechanics of composites. 2D and 3D simulations have been conducted to model matrix cracking, fibre fracture and fibre-matrix debonding. Importantly, our 3D analyses show how the toughening associated with fibre bridging can be predicted - an output of the model, not an input.
